The Salon Series
Hosted by Mia van Leeuwen & Jay Whitehead
Theatre Outré is delighted to announce a new event that will be added to our annual programming – The Outré Salon Series–inspired by the French literary and philosophical movements of the 17th + 18th centuries; a salon is a gathering of people under the roof of inspired hosts contemplating a range of weighty themes and subjects.
This year our hosts will be Jay Whitehead and Mia van Leeuwen (who you might remember from last season via her object theatre adaption of Sapientia) and invited guests (to be announced).
Salon’s offer exposure to new ideas, they provide dynamic interactivity, they ask big questions, and aim to create multi-perspective dialogue with community on a variety of subjects.
This year we will host two salons:
Death Becomes Us
A salon about death, dying and memorial practices

This salon is initiated by Mia, who has hosted a past death salon in Winnipeg, and is currently researching the topic of death and the imagination, looking at the role of the artist in cultural rituals surrounding death.
Creating and consuming art in the age of trigger warnings and social justice.
