David Gabert
ImpromtOu Co-Coordinator
With a background in arts and theatre administration, an unending passion for mental health awareness and advocacy in his day job, and a side hustle of being a father, David (he/they) lives and breathes improv in all that they do in Lethbridge since they moved to Lethbridge in 2005. With a "yes, let's" attitude, David has been involved with multiple southern alberta theatrical groups as a performer, director, or instructor including New West Theatre, Dirty Laundry: YYC Improvised Soap Opera, Playgoers, Lethbridge Musical Theatre, Drama Nutz Productions, and of course with Theatre Outre.
Since its inception in 2017, David has served as the ImpromptOu Co-Coordinator alongside his longtime collaborator Erica, and has had their life forever shaped by the wonderful opportunities to grow as a performer, discover and embrace themself, and share incredible laughter along the way. In addition to their role with ImpromptOu, David has aided the operations of the company as its past General Manager, and lent his voice acting, directing and backstage expertise to many of the shows.
With ImpromptOu. David has co-created many different Improv formats, many of which seek to entertain through laughter and others that seek to push the boundaries of what improv can be. These include: Queer-prov: Uncensored Song & Sketch Show; As the World Burns: Lethbridge's Improvised Soap Opera (Formerly Gomorrah); No Way Out: An Improvised Tragicomedy; Card Chaos: Improvised Party Show; Trebl-Quest: An Improvised Fantasy Musical amongst others.
Always dreaming up new shows, and pushing the players to be the best that they can be, David endeavours to find the fun in all that he does a bring a little more laughter and play to the world, especially in the lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy - the land they and their family are a guest in. Outside of the theatre, you will find David working to raise awareness through the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta South Region; coordinating events and leading collaboration in social services through the Lethbridge Integrated Coordinated Access (ICA); serving as a board member of the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge; a proud advocate through the Performing Arts Centre Advocacy Group; as well as finding much needed time to be a nerdy gamer with his friends and family, especially their ever supportive partner and delightfully sassy daughter.
